Ensuring passengers catch their flight is another. Getting flights out on-time is only part of the battle. Simple, placing restrooms or retail areas for instance - but it’s more than meets the eye! Pax may become distracted when seating or interesting services require a long walk or are far from their gate! Carefully consider the details to truly maximize your efficiency and reap the profits. Moving walkways, multi-story structures, additional terminals, one-way taxiways, staggered schedules, and careful standby gate allocation - these are but a sampling of the concepts you’ll leverage on your way to truly mastering the art of large-scale airport operations. Large & complex airports require extremely smart designs. Avoiding bottlenecks for 10k+ pax will likely require different tactics! You control everything, from the cruise-altitude decisions to the smallest ground-level details.Ĭhallenge yourself to create an efficient & profitable international hub in Career Mode, or create an artistic masterpiece without credit rating worries in Sandbox Mode.Ĭonstruct your terminal, hire staff, sign airline contracts, tweak the daily flight schedule, configure standby gate availability, plan & design your infrastructure - bag handling systems, roads & taxiways, fuel systems, runways, gates, hangars, service vehicles, and In summary, proper scheduling will prevent the need for a Standby gate, until and unless the Devs institute mechanical failures on the aircraft which would result in a delayed push-off.Your browser does not support the video tag. So make sure the Standby gate is not too far off. This results in the pax having to transit to that gate, and can be an issue. If you have a Standby gate, and an aircraft on approach pings its' gate and that gate is still occupied, then the inbound will change to the Standby gate. If not, you have an issue somewhere with your pax throughput or need to schedule additional time on the gate for the aircraft to load. as long as your scheduling allows 30 minutes between flights on the gate, and the aircraft push off the gate on time or less than 10 minutes late, you'll be ok. If you've noticed, flights land earlier than their scheduled arrival time, and that is more indicative of an on-gate arrival time (unless they have to taxi a LONG way.). then they will check again a few minutes later. If so, they land and proceed to the gate. Inbound flights check to see if their gate is free 20 minutes prior to scheduled arrival. The key is to understand the game mechanic and why they can be needed.
